Behind the gates of paradise

Behind the gates of paradise

festival campaign, illustration, responsive website, promotion trailer

After having pitched their Bohemian style festival tents in Amsterdam’s Westerpark for years, it was time for Buiten Westen to go out and explore new terrain. The electronic music with which Buiten Westen serves the public just so happens to sound best in the idyllic outdoors. The Gates of Paradise reopened and the public needed to get their invitation, 2.0.

An illustration palette of organic elements such as animals and fruits have the unique ability to deliver to the audience of Buiten Westen their message of a natural high. The accumulation of image upon image, upon verse upon color, is testament to the cultural diversity that numerically does not bow its head to Noah’s ark.

12 x 12 x 12 x 6 = 10,368 variations

The inexhaustibility of a paradise garden was simulated through a carousel system of 12 different images, that combined two separate halves to form one new joined image. Next, 12 poetic lines were added to that image, which was finally topped off with one of six background colors.

That added up to 10,368 possible outcomes. The website was the perfect place to apply this system. With each page scroll the four elements were randomly combined.
