Some of the real gems that are brought in daily to the recycling center Amersfoort-Leusden deserve an extra spotlight. The endless treasure of beautiful and special items was therefore given a proper home down town in a cool new pop-up store, Old News, that before long sparked the attention of many of the city’s residents.

Old News isn’t merely a name, it’s a way of thinking. Unpretentious, unmistakably Dutch and colorful, the poster series and visual identity breathe new life into everything. The design of all the interior is also drawn from the bottomless well that is the recycling center, making the appearance approachable and the pop up store itself a prime example of old news.

Old life, new life

Old life, new life

Old items and object are time and again sent to the trash even though they still possess so much potential life. In a five fold poster series the concept of Old News is framed satirically.

For instance, a drilling machine that costs a few dimes still serves perfectly well as a kitchen appliance and redundent headphones can be great as shoelaces. The poster series thus inspires an abundance of new life.

In order to stage the cream of the crop of vintage items in its most characteristic fashion, the objects should pretty much be able to tell their story. Not just in the poster series but also in the design of the interior in which recycled items are implemented. The self-reference that thus occurs highlights exactly the idea behind the pop-up store of resurrecting the old.

Things did not stop with a fitting name and strong campaign for Old News. The design of the interior was executed in such a way to fully fit into the overall created visual identity, while the construction was held simple so that all the stands and showcases are mobile and dismountable. With this modular and dynamic interior Old News can effortlessly pop up at any new location.
